MY 6 DAYS 5 NIGHTS BUDGET TO SEOUL

This would be the last post of my Seoul journey. Seoul is a very nice city with friendly people and beautiful view. Overall, i am quite satisfied with this trip, even though there are some places that I have to forgo because of some constraints. For instance, my initial plan was to go to Sokcho. Had to cancel the plan at the very last minute since the kids tagged along. I really wish to return to Seoul but during other seasons. Summer is warm...and i mean it... really warm! Anyway, here is my total budget for the whole trip.

FLIGHT TICKET                   :  RM 669 all in (initially the flight itself was rm500++)
ACCOMODATION               :  RM 415 per pax for 5 nights
DRY FOOD BROUGHT        :  RM100/4= RM25 each
FROM HOME
AIRPORT (RETURN)             :  RM24
DAY 1                                     :  RM30
DAY 2                                     :  RM52 (INCLUSIVE RENTAL OF A BICYCLE)
DAY 3                                     :  RM60
DAY 4                                     :  RM107
DAY 5                                     :  RM13
ESTIMATED TOTAL             : RM1395.00

We only dine out twice during our journey @ Seoul. Once at Paris Cafe for supper, the night before we went home and the other time was at Namdaemun (the kebab shop). Oh yes, we also had the South Korean ABC at Nami, remember..? The rest of the days...I cooked like a professional...ha..ha.. never cooked so seriously back home but i cooked everyday in Seoul. See, how circumstances can push you to the limit...;) We didn't buy much things to bring home either. Just a few souvenirs (less than RM 100) for remembrance.

Paris Cafe
This is just my estimation.  The most, it could be RM1500 per pax for a 6-day journey to Seoul. Accomodation tu agak mahal la sikit coz i went with my kids (kena carik tmpt yg conducive for kids) and booked it at the very last minute...but i'm satisfied with the place and didn't regret paying more.

Till then!

THE CHILDREN MUSEUM

While waiting for the change of the guard, we went to the National Folk Museum which is actually in the same compound as the palace. Unfortunately, u can't take any photos inside the museum.

The front gate

The museum shop...
Itu ajelah gambar yang ade dkt folk Museum tu...hu..hu..

And there's another museum next to the folk museum. It's called the children museum. FOC with the same ticket.

Before entering the children museum, there was a small counter if u
wanna try Korean Hats.
Inside the museum, they display things associated with the kids of Korea. What they like to play in the past/traditional games, the traditional houses, and some scientific information delivered in a fun and interactive ways.

Look at these kids... Habis coklat2 seluar berguling2 dlm
bijik2 tu... Sampai bila basuh seluar, penuh dngn bijik2 tu...

Korean Traditional Room
Their house

Some of the games that can be tried out by the visitors.

Ada juga fitting baju kat sini but only for children. The ah jumma liked Farah so much, she captured her photos using her own hand-phone, sambil mencubit2 pipi budak tu...

Kalau kat palace, u pakai baju pak guard, but this one is the
princess' costume. Comelnya anak mama!

Cak!

Ini aksi frust  menonggeng budak yang x dpt fitting baju coz x muat...

This way to the world of science & technology

Trying out some of the inventions.

The origin of telephone (bottom) and the origin of post office (top).

We spotted a traditional Korean house outside the museum.
Not so sure what or whose house it is....
After the children museum, we rushed back to the palace for the change of the guard ceremony.

*Expenses for this journey:

Subway: KRW 2100 (return)
Entrance fee to the palace: KRW 3000

Gyeongbokgung Palace

The entrance to Geongbokgung Palace.

This day was a bit colder than all the other days. It was cloudy and sometimes it drizzled. Today, we planned to go to Gyeongbokgung Palace. There are a few palaces in Seoul which u can visit them all of u have ample time. Unlike us who had very limited time in Seoul, we had to choose only one palace that fit us all.  From Hongik, we took the subway line 2 to Gyeongbokgung Station. Transit at Euljiro 3. Once u are at Gyeongbokgung station,  exit at exit 5. U won't miss the palace as there many signs directing u to the palace. The fare is 1050 won from Hongik to Gyeongbokgung (about 27 minutes).

Gyeongbokgung Station.
Entrance fee to the palace is 3000 won. Kids half the price. Ticket for Gyeongbokgung Palace is also valid at the National Palace Museum and the National Folk Museum. That's the main reason why i chose this palace as we could go to several museums later on. Bear in mind that Gyeongbokgung Palace is close every Tuesday. U can use your Integrated Ticket of Palaces here too.

At the ticket counter juga ada disediakan money changer dan juga
tourist info centre. I rented the audio guide player. Since it was drizzling at
that time, i forgot to snap any photos of the player. Harga dah x ingat la...

Jom masuk!
King's Quarters (if i'm not mistaken)

Tinggi2 betol mereka nih...

Change of the Guard
After change of the guard, we went to the costume area to try out the Hanbok. It's free but very limited people can get the chance to try them. I think about 10 people per session. The fitting session starts every 10 minutes after the change of the guard. What we did was, asking Farah to queue at the costume area while we went to watch the change of the guard. Later, I replaced Farah while she went and snapped some photos with the guards. The costumes were new and smell good. Ingatkan bau busuk coz ramai dah try2 tp wangi2 je.. mcm baru basuh... They have variety of sizes for all ages and genders...

Look at the crowd. We didn't Q for this session. We queued for the
next one where Farah was the 1st 'customer'..he..he..

The result...

Everyone is given 10 minutes to model, snap photos,
berangan sambil memakai hanbok tu...
Comel2 mama...
Sapa lambat...inilah jawabnyerrr...

To be cont...

From Souvenir Shopping @ Namdaemun to Nanta Show @ Myeongdong

After the museum, we took the subway to Namdaemun. Waktu tu pon perot dah berkeroncong lapar... I'd read from blogs that if we exit at exit 4, there is a muslim food outlet nearby. Cuma kami x berapa pasti la lokasinya.. Nak x nak, we just tried our luck...

When we were out of exit 4, we bumped into a Bangladeshi and asked him where can we get halal food.. He gave us the direction. Mmg sngt dekat dngn exit 4. U just cross the road and head to the right. Then, u'll see a small kebab shop.

Subway: very nice eh?
Wanna repeat climbing to Namsan Tower? No, TQ

A glance at the busy Namdaemun street. Bumped into a
Bruneian family here.
Tu dia...Bila nampak aja jedai kebab ni, berbunga2 hati yang layu.

Kecik aja kedainya... For your info, inilah
kedai pertama yg kami dine out since our
arrival at Seoul. The rest of the days, we cooked!

This is the menu. Limited for some but sufficient
for us
Walking along the rows of shops@
Namdaemun. To me, this place is a larger
Version of Petaling Street. U can buy almost
anything here.
Some of the souvenirs sold

Farah bought herself a pair of Korean
Style sandal.. ahjumma tu kata,
'Gangnam style' sandal. Suka hati die aja. ..
Then, we bought some t-shirts.
We spent only a couple of hours there as we wanted to get to Myeongdong for the Nanta Show. NANTA ni kalau x silap, has been running since October 1997 and they have a few outlets. the biggest one is in MyeongDong. The others are at Jeju, Hongdae and Gangbuk. We walked to Myeongdong. It's just a few blocks away. At that time, it seemed like it was about to rain. When we arrived at Myeongdong area, there were plenty of tourist police to help us with the location.

The bz street of Myeongdong.
Farah enjoyed taking photos with all
these figurines.

The landmark to go to the building where nanta
show is performed: TEENIE WEENIE

Sampai dah...
Masuk dlm naik tingkat satu, kami collect tiket dulu. I'd purchased the tickets online n we got 20% discount under the red hot chilli promo. you need to bring anything red in order to get the discounts. We showed them our passports and obviously they are red in color....:)

kalu x silap, mika ni pernah dtg perform di KLCC satu masa dulu...

The wall of fame

Some of the souvenirs sold

Ini tempt wajib snap gmbr. X sah tngk nanta show
Tp x bergmbr di sini...he..he...
Ha..kat sini pon wajib..main entrance to the lower floor
Actually, the performers are divided into groups of 10 according to colors. There are different actors in each color.

Hari ni turn kumpulan brown to perform.

The performers from the brown group who
performed for us. They were great!

Boleh belik jajan2 dn air di sini
Too bad no one is allowed to snap any photos during the show. So, hanya gambar sebelum dan selepas ajelah yang adoo... Ada budak perempuan jaga kat situ. Ada yg cuba2 tngkp gambar.. kena panggil ke luar, dpt warning... mcm referee panggil player keluar padang plak...he..he..

Sinopsis ceritanya sangat simple dan entertaining. Nothing heavy as this is merely for entertainment kan... Anak2 I terguling2 ketawa...

Without a dialogue, but through rhythmic banging of knives, pots and pans, NANTAtells the story of four crazy chefs who have been set the impossible task of making a wedding banquet in just one hour. What follows is pure musical mayhem, and they even manage to fit in a love story! The show is based on Korea’s traditional garak (rhythms) of Samulnori (traditional Korean percussion quartet), and can be enjoyed by all the family (taken from http://www.visitkorea.or.kr/ enu/SI/SI_EN_3_2_1.jsp?cid=685099)

The stage: before the show
The stage: after the show
I don't know how much they spend on buying cabbages, carrots n other veges.. punyalah bnyk guna sayor throughout the show. Pembaziran...pembaziran...

A memento bought from
the Nanta Show.
By the time the show ended, it was nearly dark and it was drizzling.
Luckily we've got the umbrellas borrowed from Boa for the kids.
As for me, i didn't bother to use any..;)
Overall, Nanta show was fun n something different. Pricey but worth it! The show proves that language is not a barrier to deliver information to others. It was mainly a pantomime but we totally understood the whole plot.

*Expenses for this journey:

Kebab : KRW 4000 (mahal sungguh!)
