RPP PULAU PINANG

Hello All... This time around I want to tell u about RPP Penang.

RPP Penang was the 3rd RPP that I had stayed after 12 years of being a government servant. I believe this is the newest RPP in town. I'd been to the one in Langkawi (superbly nice!) and Kenyir (nice too!). Well, apa gunanya kemudahan, kalau x digunakan, ye tak...? There are plenty of RPPs all over Malaysia. For those who do not know, RPP stands for Rumah Peranginan Persekutuan which can only be rented by government servants throughout Malaysia. Some might say that government rest houses are old and not well taken care off...hello...we're living in the 21st century my friends...As far as I'm concerned, the houses are all very nice, well equipped, cheap and basically cater to all my humble expectations. Booking is easy too. just go to the website and book. Pay online within 2 weeks and u're set to go. However, of course there's a setback ...rumah ni memang like hot cakes...ada yg kena book nearly a year in advanced. Ala, AA boleh book a year in advance, takkan hotel x boleh kan...? Anyway, if u decide not to go in the end, your money will be refunded... Tp jngnla hari ni x nak pegi, hari ni baru nak cancel..memang takkan dapat duit semula...

Anyway, let's get back to the point. RPP Penang is situated at :

NO 9, JALAN D.S. RAMANATHAN (JLN SCOTT)
10350 PENANG.

GPS COORDINATE: 5.429752, 100.305514 (pls use the coordinate as u can't find the add in the GPS).

Rumah ni actuallly near to Berjaya Georgetown. It's somewhere in the middle of the big bungalow housing area. We didn't have much difficulty finding it as Penang ni dah mcm 2nd kg to us (according to my hubby). I love Penang and always will...

There are 3 types of rooms available here:

1. VVIP Suite for Jusa A and above - RM150 per night (not so sure as we didn't go into the room)
2. Executive Suite for grade 54 to JUSA B - RM100 per night (1 double and 1 twin)
3. Deluxe Suite for grade 41 to 52 - RM70 (2 twin beds)

Unfortunately, this RPP does not cater to grade lower than 41 but there are other RPPs which can accommodate all grades (even retirees)  such as the one in Langkawi, PD and Kenyir.

The Front Entrance...Just ignore the bags
The Reception
Our Executive Suite came with 1 double bed & 1 single bed. A very spacious room with plenty of space
for Farah to whirl....

The bathroom. Shower was superb!
The rest of the room.

I found the executive suite to be  very spacious but the deluxe suite was a bit small. Tp okla if u're a couple. Like me, yg dah beranak pinak, exec suite would be just fine...

Price wise? I think this RPP is slightly more expensive than the rest of the other RPPs,  but apa2 pon, still cheap.  Perhaps because it's new and after all it's Penang...I can get rm55 for a room in Langkawi and a fully furnished 3 bedroom apartment for rm115 at PD.

Rest Area

Ample parking space, guard pon ada...

Kat sini x ada swimming pool pon but we didn't mind...Kite p serang laut....!!!

Till then...

The best naan in town!

Hi again! For me, This place is a compulsory venue to stop by while I'm in Penang. Why? Because of its one and only ever delicious Cheeeesssseeee Nan and chicken tandoori... Marvelous! U can't get this anywhere except at Kapitan Penang. I've been to the one Lebuh Chulia (near Kapitan Keling Mosque) and another one is near Queensbay Mall @ Queensbay. Similar taste! Not only that the restaurants serve the best nan in town but the price is also cheap compared to the ones in KL.

Besides naan and tandoori, the claypot briyani is also worth trying...nyum..nyum...[i'm drooling while writing Drooling]...

The freshly clay oven  baked cheese naan & the roasted chicken tandoori.
 Look at the melted cheese...

RM8 per set. Comes with condiments  (Teh tarik is excluded, ya)
Claypot briyani...The best! Can't remember the price, RM8  or not more than that
Our meals!

For no reason, i can't seem to find my other photos of the restaurant. Do be patients while i ransack my files Patience Of A Saint

Toy Museum, Penang

2011 was the year of Penang. I'd been to Penang so many times, i lost count! Hubby got continuous jobs there, so the kids and i tagged along sometimes. We'd been there by different mode of transport, bus, air plane,  and car. Semua merasa. In one of the visits, we went to the toy museum. Actually, i'd planned to visit this museum long time ago (when i stayed at Copthorne) but only last year i managed to go there.
The entrance
The kids and the predator!
It is situated right in front of Copthorne Orchid Hotel. To those who do not know where is Copthorne, the toy museum is situated at Jalan Tanjung Bungah (N5 27.962 E100 17.511). U can see all sorts of figurines, dolls and characters at the museum. Entrance fee is RM10 for adults and RM6 for kids. It is opened daily at 9am until  9 pm.

There are many sections in the museum such as the chamber of horror, Star wars collections, combats and so on.

My old time fav!
Famous figurines
More toys

Me, hubby n Farah

Faris n mama

Tplah kan, there sections that are less taken care off. I mean, it's a bit dusty. I also think they need a bigger place to store the toys. There are too many of them. My guess is, it's individually owned. Overall, the place is fun!

We spent some times there and on our way out, Farah bought a Barbie set with cooking theme at the price of RM10. So very very cheap!

Our favourite!
Scary!

One question triggers in my mind: Perhaps the toys might be alive at night?!

Hanya Kerana Sepinggan Nasi Kandar...

The Sign
The outcome
The dishes

A trip to Penang isn’t complete if you do not try the famous Penang nasi kandar. If you go to Penang, you can see plenty of nasi kandar eating outlets mushrooming the small heritage city. From expensive restaurants like D’kayu to average priced outlets like Kapitan and Kassim Mustafa. All have their own special tastes and flavours. Now, I’m not going to talk about these restaurants. I’m going to tell you about this one particular nasi kandar restaurant situated next to Masjid Kapitan Keling. My husband took me there one night..When you look at the restaurant signage, it makes u  laugh..The restaurant is called ‘Nasi Kandar Beratur’. “What a weird name,” I thought... I asked my husband why the name is like that..And he just asked me to wait till 10pm.  We were there at 9.15pm. As usual, typical scenario: people were eating and drinking while chitchatting with friends.. We ordered drinks. At 9.30pm, a few people started queuing up at the restaurant.  At 9.45pm, more and more people coming and started to continue the line. By 10pm, I could see 1km line from the restaurant. My goodness! I thought these people were crazy, queuing up just to buy a plate of nasi kandar. Well, it turned out we were also a part of the madness. We began to get curious. “Mesti sedap sangat, sampai semua org dok berator.” At 10.05pm, we decided to join the crazy people and my husband started queuing at the distance of 1km from the restaurant. We took turn to queue. When he was tired, I queued and vice versa. We got our rice at exactly 10.45pm... While waiting, my children already ordered 2 glasses of ice Milo each... You could feel your stomach, from hungry to full, hungry again and bloated...ha..ha..  By the time we finished eating, I could see longer queue...more people were coming from nowhere. What amazed me was, all the people who were queuing waiting for their turn were very patient. They didn’t complain or got angry. All in all, I could say, wanting to buy food at Nasi Kandar Beratur is like waiting for your turn to get on Space mountain at Disneyland. The taste? “Sama aja mcm nasi2 kandar yang lain.” Despite the long queue, the price was so cheap. Am I going to queue again? Nah, I don’t think so. Once was enough. At least, if people ask me, “have u tried nasi kandar beratur?” I can proudly claimed that I had queued up for nearly an hour just to get sepinggan nasi kandar...:)
10.05pm: Just started queuing
10.30pm: Kaki dah mula lenguh
Look at all these people. Amazing!
